Brightbook was founded in December 2007 and is the brainchild of Warwick Leicester (the techie) and James Henderson (the creative). Both have worked together, been friends and shared offices around Soho for the past 8 years.

Running their own businesses both had different methods for bookkeeping. James tried and failed to get to grips with some accounting software (concluding that it must have been written by accountants for accountants) and eventually settled for a basic Excel spreadsheet. Meanwhile, Warwick spent a fortune using various accounting packages, got frustrated and decided to develop his own. His initial bespoke version was rough (it looked bloody awful) but was functional. It did exactly what he needed it to do.

One day, quite randomly, while the two were moaning about the hideousness of bookkeeping Warwick showed James his bookkeeping solution. The idea hit them and the Brightbook concept was born.
